I changed my name last year and started with my Passport first. I don't remember paying for the new ID card - I'm pretty sure it was free. I did, however, have to pay to have my visa put in my new passport. about $135 for that.

Koala, was it automatic that they put the visa in your new passport - or did you have to inform them to put it in?

I had to inform them, but I can't remember how I did it! I think I asked about it at the same time I went in for the change of name on my ID card and I was pointed in the right direction. Take the ORIGINAL marriage certificate for them to see when changing your ID card, then it will be free. (I've just remembered this.) I don't think you can change the ID card before you have your new passport in your new name (if you are not a local HKer).
