"Dropping" dog

ORIGINAL POST

Our almost ten year old kelpie/alsatian cross has "dropped" twice while out at the park. This has occurred in the past month. Her back legs seem to give way and she drops and can't walk and gets up in about quater hour after a little 'rest'. She isn't an arthritic dog, nor is she from a breed that suffer from hip problems. Any ideas? We are off to the vet tomorrow but wanted to hear from any dog owners with similar experience. Thanks.

It could also be a mild seizure. I had a spaniel cross that would lose control of her hind end for a few minutes. It was epilepsy even though she never actually went into a full blown seizure.

Sounds like what happens to our dog when she has an epileptic fit ... she doesn't lose complete conciousness, but she's completely off her legs and shaking, and her eyes seem glazed over. It tends to last about 10-15mins, then she's fine. She doesn't take medication as the vet said it wasn't necessary unless it was happening very regularly ... it happens about once every other month.

Agree with Mcgonagall exact same thing happened to my c*cker spaniel. She had surgery as described above and has now made a full recovery! Good luck.
