We are receiving some crank calls at home. Have reported same to the police who advised to get caller ID and try to catch the number for them - working on this (if the callers are stupid enough to not block the number). We have thought of changing the number but have had same for 10 years, so will be the last resort. I have heard that you can purchase scream / noise alarms that you can direct down the phone at the caller. Are such things available in HK ? and where ? Appreciate any guidance.

If the caller is using a 7/11 obtained mobile phone sim card, there is precious little you can do. Change your home phone number or purchase a coaches whistle ( any sports store will sell one ). blow the whistle at full blast into the mouth piece of the phone the moment you hear the obscene caller.

If you have a domestic helper, it's worth asking her whether she made any debts she does not repay. In my friend's case that was the reason for the calls.

What I've done in the past is to just cover the mouth piece, say nothing, and let them get on with their heavy breathing, or whatever drivle that wish to say ... when they think that no one's listening and it's falling on deaf ears, they soon get bored with it and stop.

Thanks for your replies - certainly appreciated.
As to the content its is in English and Cantonese with a variety of colourful swear words. I like the sound of the whistle - cheap and hopefully effective. We don't have a maid, so thats not going to be cause here.
