I have a desk top and have added an external hard drive for extra storage. My PC has stopped recognising it and will not bootup if it is connected through the USB. It is causing some problems with some of my programes (itunes). Any advice as to what can do?

thanks for that, at least now I can get it to boot up! Once it is plugged in again the PC still does not recognise that it is there. Can't recover anything from the external hard drive.

Try plugging it into a different port. If that doesn't work, take it to Wan Chai and get someone to help you. There might be something wrong with it.

You could also try plugging it into another computer - if it works on another PC, you know it's an issues with your PC, not the HDD. If that's the case, you may have a driver problem, where the PC's driver that recognises the HDD is corrupted or otherwise not working correctly.
Do other external HDDs work on your PC?
