Not invited to friend's b'day party

Hi,

My son (10 years) has group of close friends. One of the boys from the group has organised a sleepover for his bday and has not invited my son (other boys from the group have been invited). My son has been upset and disturbed about this for many days. I have asked him if anything was the matter in their friendship, and he said nothing had happened. The boy's mom is a friend of mine. I feel even if there was an issue, the mom could have spoken to me. Please advice on what should be my next step. I'm extremely upset too.

Thanks! How do you tell a child this?

If done by design, this is bullying by omission. However, our children need to understand too that these kind of things happen.

Depending on your son's makeup (and if it becomes a pattern), it can affect him long term. Or this can be a teaching opportunity too.

I agree with Malka that you need to make sure that this was not intentional and talking to the other mum is a good start. Hope it turns out well in the end.
