Hi Tai Tam for us, we have 2 little ones and on average this ticked mist boxes for us. Good side apt, right price, easy to get around in cab (not to far from Stanley), shuttle bus to work, great pool, good views, supermarket within walking, good place for kids to play downstairs.

Repulse Bay, for the same reasons that southside4 mentioned. Also close to schools and heaps of kids in our apartment blocks. mine are always occupied and of course, can't beat the view!!Quite a large Aussie contingent here.

It depends on your budget. You could have a garden in Stanley or Redhill. Sai Kung or Clearwater Bay would be better for you if you want to be closer to the Australian School though.

ozXpat,

I agree with DtE - give some indication of housing budget first as most of the places mentioned are nice but way up-market (read: very expensive). There are Aussie families all over HK from Lantau to HK island to NT and many send kids to other schools not just the Aus. Int. school.

We chose Redhill (Tai Tam) for similar reasons to southside 4. Not alot of Aussies here (some)but a nice mix of all nationalities. Lovely sea view, lots of open space and nearby walking trails but no real grass!! You can waterski/wakeboard right at your doorstep. Lots of young kids. Longer commute but most Aussies are used to that.

If you want to meet other Aussies - join the Aust Assoc once you get here.

I know quite alot of young Aussie couples without kids are living in Cyberport at Pokfulam on HK island.

If you want grass and real open space - DB is great but you have the ferry ride to deal with. Quite alot of Aussies over there - schooling is more of a problem though.

we chose not to use the Aust school because too far away. Probably easiest to live in NT if you want kids to go to Aust school (check you can get in first as we were told it may be a 2 year wait).

If you like the quieter "country" life, Hong Lok Yuen in Tai Po is great. We even have real grass! (You probably need the company covering rent though, it's hefty). There is a British school here, and it's not too far from AIS and others. Convenient if your husband works in Shenzhen, or Kowloon side. If he works in Central there is a bus in the mornings, or the trains, albeit over an hour's journey.

We are out at the Gold Coast but we have no children so do not have to worry about schools. We have a huge apartment with a couple of balconies and a roof top. We like it because of the space, it's not so busy and it's only 45min on the bus into town which goes 24hrs (during the busy time every 15min and later in the evening and early wee hours every 30mins.)

We live in Tung Chung (coastal skyline)(next to the airport) we are kiwis and most of our friends are aussies. They all have kids and most seem to come from Queensland.

Its a fantastic community.

We live in Fortress Hill. Not many Aussies live near us, but we Do have Victoria park close by which the kids use daily. It has a huge grass field for kicking the footy/kites etc and loads of playgrounds for the kids to play on.

Been here 6 years now and have lived at the Gold Coast since arrival. Great mixed expat community. Have now raised two little ones and find the abundance of space, larger apartments, low rent (compared to other areas of similar size and space)not to mention the lawns that you are allowed to walk on, practice golf, BBQs, cricket matches (annual backyard rules), footy etc! and the great facilities are the big plus to living here.

Best advice, have a look for yourself and, don't listen too much to what others say, and make up your own mind.

Good luck.
