Sin Tat in Mongkok have them, last check was around HK$9000. They may have come down a little since then.

I looked into this as well.
For the moment the price of an unlocked 3G iphone will cost you:
1: the price of the phone
2: the price of the plan term period and/or break costs (about equal to full term costs).
3: unlock cost
4: profit for whoever bothers to got through all of this for you.
So unless you want to drop that amount of cash for a new 3G iphone, and then add your own 3G network plan costs to it - it may just be easier to go with the 3 network here in HK.

I think the 3G phone is great, and I use the 3G network all the time, surfing, checking emails etc... The faster network speeds are certainly noticable. Very rarely you may not be able to get a 3G signal, which is when the phone switches to the 2.5g network and speeds are painfully slow.
I have an unlocked iphone which I use with smarttone. Smarttone have a special deal whereby you get unlimited data for just 108HKD per month (I think its unofficial, you have to go into the store and talk to them and they will then offer it to you). I Don't have a restrictive 2 year contract. Can go back and forth to the UK as I please and switch sim cards.

Does anyone know if I buy an i-phone in the US whether it can be iunlocked so that it can be used in HK?
All i-phones in the US are set up to run on AT&T but I have been told there is a patch or code that can be entered to allow you to use in HK without having to be on the US AT&T plan

yes you can get all the help you need from the apple store online or you can go to the apple store in kowloon on nathan rd near the kowloon park entrance. you can buy an unlocked Iphone or they can unlock the one you already have. i believe 3 mobile (hutchinson mobile) has lease plans for Iphones. just go to http://three.com.hk and find a shop near you. i know there are 3 shops in hutchinson house in central in the bank of america tower. I know there are 2 in kowloon TST on carnarvon rd & cameron rd.

Yes. You can unlock it yourself or get it done for you. However you'll still need to sign up for the AT&T plan. :(
