Has anyone stayed at Yangshuo Mountain Retreat? Does it provide easy access to most places?

I've stayed there. It's a lovely place, nicely appointed rooms with great people, they speak English, are very helpful, and they have a restaurant with both western and Chinese food -- but it's not convenient to the town. To get to town, you call a taxi (they will call one for you) and it's about a 10 minute ride. They also rent bicycles, will book things like river cruises and make local suggestions, and could find a guide if you want to bicycle on some back country trails. I suggest, if you want to have the "town" experience, stay in town, if you want a "retreat" or more "countryside" experience, stay at YMR. Of course, it's possible to do both just by using taxis to get around.
