I am looking for plain fabric calico bags or basically a plain shopping bag my kids can paint for Christmas presents. I have been to SPotlight and they have nothing. Have also checked a few markets but not found anything either.

Not seen them but you could try the cotton versions at Stanley or buy some material and have them made? Cheapest would probably be a tailor at a market somewhere, take a sample style along.
