I'd like a pet and I'm a cat person. Unfortunately, my lease explicitly forbids dogs and cats. So I'm considering a Chinchilla (not to the "seriously considering" stage yet).

Does anyone have experience with these pets? Do they basically behave like rabbits? Do they tend to stay healthy if you take care of them well? Can you let them around the house (under supervision, of course)?

Are they cuddleable and social?
