Train from Hung Hom to Lo Wu is my way. From Central to HH station the options are many.

there are buses from Wan Chai (across from Star Ferry) directly to Huanggang as well...

Is it no longer possible to catch the train from TST East? (I know there have been big changes at that station but not sure how they affect the train service to Shenzhen)

No, one of the crazy parts of the change. You can go all the way to Tuen Mun though.........

Anyway if Lowu is where you are going then train from Hung Hom to Lowu........

For Lok Ma Chau then either coach or again train from Hung Hom

For Shenzhen Bay or Sha Tau Kok then bus

well, you can get ON the train at TST East and transfer at Hung Hom (it's not as if the two are totally disconnected now)

if you must take the train from Central, and you must take the East Rail to Lowu, you may be better off interchanging at Mongkok and at Kowloon Tong. You can't interchange on the same ticket at TST to TST East, but you can at Kowloon Tong. Of course, you may not get a seat, but for that ride I prefer the 1st Class car anyway which is often fairly empty at Kowloon Tong.
