Is a dishwasher a necessary purchase in Hong Kong? We are thinking of buying one and went and took a look at some, but don't know if we really need one?

Helper argument: Many people in HK say "the helper washes the dishes so you don't need a dishwasher". This ignores the fact that time spent by the helper washing dishes by hand could be used for other things. Is your helper really busy? Would a dishwasher allow her to do other things or allow her some much needed downtime?

Water argument: If memory serves, dishwashers also use less water than hand washing.

My opinion: If you have the space, it is worth getting one, even if only a narrow model.

we have a small one, and i love it for when our helper isn't working. however, even with it, our helper usually washes most of the dishes by hand.

i lived here for almost 13 years before we got a dishwasher. and we only got it because it was a great deal second-hand.
