Self-service laundromats?
Posted by veganjenny (41 days ago)
Just wondering if there are any self-service laundromats around, or how one might go about finding one? I'm living between Wan Chai (somewhere between Wan Chai MTR and Causeway Bay MTR) and was hoping to find a place to do my own laundry. Thanks!

Don't think I've ever seen a self-service laundromat here in Hong Kong as the laundry shops here are probably the cheapest in the world.

i've been here for almost 15 years and have never seen a self-service one. as said previously, the ones where they do the work are so cheap.
just so you know...
separate your own laundry. don't expect them to do it for you. they will wash/dry and fold for a set price/kg.

I don't think I've seen any laundries at all while walking around, but I might just not be going to the right places. Any you can recommend around Wan Chai/Causeway Bay? One thing I'm concerned about is allergies ... I was hoping to wash my own so that I could use hypoallergenic stuff. I wonder if there are any laundries that do that? Thanks!

you can get small washer/dryer machines here (look like a washing machine - but also dry), that work quite well. Fit into most small apartments. Might be worth the investment

Why do you want to do you own laundry if someone will do it for you for $35- and a smile ?
I buy all my polo shirts one size too large, knowing that they will fit me perfectly after the second laundry run.

I would love to have someone do my laundry, but I'm concerned about allergies. I might try going to a local laundry and seeing what happens, but it would be really great if I could use my own detergent. Thanks!

why don't you take your own detergent and ask them to use it instead? the worst they could do is say, no....

that is true, clothes will definitely shrink one size smaller...maybe even more, depends on the fabric.
