when discussing with a friend/colleague the below seems to be the top issues

a. housing -

b. schooling

is there anything good about these two?? If HK has to attract/retain talent

Apart from these HK is a lovely place to live.

a. great public transportation

b. fantastic green cover

c. great food

d. low crime rate and very very safe

e. great to travel

f. low tax - some say leads to high house prices

g. calmer/nicer people - no one abuses you

other issues

a. pollution

b. increasing inflation of everything that is not reflective in official numbers limiting salary growth

c. Political uncertainty

d. Oligopoly in businesses leaving customers with less choice.. imagine if you had just cafe de coral, fairwood as restaurant choices ..bahhhhhh

not necessarily for expats moving to HK.. its the issue for HKers moving back from Canada or other overseas location.. or non-chinese who have been raised in HK..

local schools - concern was mainly the high academics focus and other related to future curriculum changes..

I've lived in HK for 21 years without an Xpat contract. Housing in the UK for example is very expensive too, as is cost of living. And Schools? Well, it's a bullet you bite... I still much prefer living here and what you save on taxes almost pays for school.
