You could try BOOM, its a piercing shop over at jafa road, I did my piercing there, it costs about 50 bucks or so to do 2 piercing, but since i only did one year I got a friend to come along and get the other piercing for free.
Posted by yeyoatmeal (1322 days ago)
cool. $50 sounds awesome, but the price makes me worry that it won't be "clean" or "safe". is it a nice place? can anyone answer that about BOOM?
Posted by Kurtz (1321 days ago)
Its pretty clean, the guy there is awsome he can do a mean tattoo as well, Boom is quit popular wif the teenagers (me) also since I know the son of the owner it adds perks every time i go there to get something :)
P.s. its either jafa rd or Java rd I cant remember which one is between cwb and wanchai

Sorry, no idea about BOOM.
I'm glad to hear you are doing some research before being pierced and seem aware that if you were unlucky enough to get an infection then there's a good chance you'd be sporting a prominent, ugly keloid scar for the rest of your life. My sister ended up with what looked like a wart on her nose when she had it pierced (many years ago) at a cheap place that didn't practice good hygiene and used tacky metal studs.
If I were you I'd go to a place so sparkling clean that you could eat your lunch off the floor. After all, you're probably only going to get pierced once and it will last you well past being a teenager (that's if you are still one).
Good luck!

I had a nasty infection of my piercing after i got it, but it wasnt the shops fault, my Pe teacher insisted I take of my earing regardless of it being a new and unhealed piercing, as a result sweat got into the hole, and the next day I woke up with a major headache and I saw my earlobe was 3 times its size, luckly it cleared up after 3 days or so. Still it was a pretty nasty experience

Eeek - it hurts, doesn't it?! Lashings of Dettol/TCP/surgical spirit required. What a thoughtless PE instructor... But at least earlobes don't get so badly scarred after infections like noses. A slight digression, but I have a couple of horror stories about piercings:
1) A friend of mine was looking after a baby. The baby suddenly yanked at her earring and ripped it completely out of her ear, leaving her lobe split completely in half. Although she has small ears, the lobes still sort of flap independently as she has never bothered having corrective surgery. Eeeuuwww.
2) Another friend had her navel pierced and went swimming a few weeks later. As she hauled herself out of the pool the ring-thing caught against the rough concrete and ripped out. Major pain, infection and scar.

Ouch.
These stories defenately put a hamper on, me getting another piercing (tongue). Anyone here know if a tongue piercing hurts as much as it looks like it does?
Posted by mlkh (1320 days ago)
I went with a friend to get her tongue done - I don't think the actual tongue piercing hurts so much, but the couple days after is a bit annoying what with the swelling. Be prepared for a soup diet!
Also, another friend got it, but he had pretty poor personal hygiene, so he had healing problems. Keep clean, and you should be fine.

The Hairdressers in Wyndham street does piercings, my daughter just got her belly button done there.

There is a less expensive option in TST. A shop in the Updatemall on Nathan Road does it and the prices are quite reasonable. The lady's name is Tracy.
I got my tongue pierced there and it was and is still perfect. But first you should check whether any major veins run through the middle of your tongue (possibly not but there are a few exceptions where people cannot get tongue piercings because of this).
I think its HKD400 for the tongue piercing including basic jewellery (barbell). But as mlkh mentioned, be prepared for a liquid diet (I myself preferred yoghurts and ice-cream! lol).
yeyoatmeal> This lady in TST also does nose piercings. But be warned, the nose piercing generally hurts more than the tongue piercing - I have no idea why but every single other person I asked told me the same thing!
If you guys are interested, I can dig up her card and post her number here.

thanks for all your awesome info. Ms. Pacman, I'd love to know more about that lady you mentioned. thanks!

Nose piercings do hurt and with a doubt bring a tear to the eyes. Toungue piercing is one of the leasat painfull of all body piercings. With any piercing you just need to watch for hygine. Most places in HK are quite lacking in this department and dispite what anyone of them say if they dont have an 'Autoclave' sterilizer they are not sterile. This is the ONLY machine that can fully sterilize the jewlery and equipment.
I wonder if people choose to go to a doctor or a surgeon because they are cheap?

I've decided to get my tounge pierced this friday, I just wanna know is there any place in HK Island (not Kowloon) that is pretty cheap and hygenic and stays open after 12? Whats the Average price for a piercing and is a plastic dum-bell better or a metal one?
Because I want to keep it a secret from my girl friend :)& my parents....
Posted by D-Man (1306 days ago)
Kurtz, if you want to keep it a secret then dont do it. You HAVE to use a surgical steel bar and cant change it until its healed (about 2 months). Now does cheap and hygenic go together? If your looking for a place that is open after 12 midnight could i assume you may want a few frinks first? if that is the case plesae dont do it.
Posted by Kurtz (1306 days ago)
Im not gonna drink tomorrow, its just that I have my prom (dinner dance) tmr and I wont be free till 12, thats why I cant to it till then, I just wanna keep it a secret from my gf. My parents dont care about me getting piercings, as for expenses should 400 cover it?
Posted by Ms. Pacman (1306 days ago)
yeyoatmeal, she's recently moved to the building next door.
She's now at Chungking Express mall on Nathan Road. You can't miss the bright sign. Her name is Tracy - mobile: 90269632.
I suggest you call in advance to find out whether she will be there. I haven't tried the other piering people.
Good luck
D-man> Do you guys do tongue piercings? How about lip? Mine has closed and I want to get it done again.
Posted by D-Man (1306 days ago)
Kurtz, ok sounds fair although i think your gf may like the idea. One think you can do is have the piercing done a little farther back so its less noticable but that does depend on your tounge.
Ms. Pacman, yes we do tounge and lip. The cost will be between 400 and 500 depending on what jewlery is used.
Posted by Kurtz (1306 days ago)
D-Man do you have a shop in HK? Where do you perform piercings?
Posted by D-Man (1305 days ago)
Kurtz, yes i opened Primal Piercing which was HK's first professional piercing studio in 1997. I now operate it out of The Hairdressers in Central. I still believe we are the only studio to use correct autoclave sterilisation.
Posted by Kurtz (1305 days ago)
Thanks D-man, I'll check out boom first then Hairdressers, see which one is open around 10ish cuz I might be able to get out then and come back to the dinner dance afterwards. What kind of piercing and jewlery can i get for 400?

Hey guys, I got my Tongue pierced on the 2nd of May, and all I can say is that I love it! I hardly had any trouble with the aftercare, although there was a some swelling, I was able to manage with a quite small lisp ;). However a week has passed and there is no sign of the swelling anymore or any infection, I had forgotten to use mouth wash for the past 2 days :(. Anywho, My next piercing is gonna be my eyebrow, I have family friend comming from the states, hes an experienced piercer, ill prob get him to do my eyebrow however I need to know where i can get the piercing kits in hk? and how much does a 14Guage one cost? or does it come in a whole range of guages?
Thanks a bunch

*Bump* Anyone :( ???
Posted by Witley (1292 days ago)
Sorry mate, can't help! I've yet to see a stab-a-hole-in-your-face kit next to the tweezers in stores around town. Can't your friend bring his kit with him? I'm generalising madly here but, unless D-Man can help, I think you'd have more luck asking on one of those other (mainly for teenagers?) sites or enquiring at salons where they sourced their kits. I say that because I get the feeling, although I could be wrong, of course, that the average poster on this site wouldn't have a clue about piercing kits; he or she would book an appt at a professional salon rather than go the DIY route. Good luck anyway, and don't go too mad - you don't want to end up looking like a slab of Emmenthal when you eventually get bored with all those piercings!
Posted by Kurtz (1292 days ago)
Thanks Witley, Im at Cwb right now i guess ill check out some shops there see if they have it, otherwise ill save up and go to Boom (380 bucks..) The reason my friend doesnt wanna bring the needles and stuff is because of the damn security in US, last time he had the needles with him (in his suitcase) he got selected for those "random" checks and missed his flight so this time he isnt bring any with him.
D-Man, where do you get your kits from? (if you use kits)
Posted by D-Man (1292 days ago)
Kurtz, good to know your happy with your piercing but do keep in mind it takes 2 months to heal and infections are still possible if your not carefull.
We dont use kits as they are really only used by amatures or home piercers.
Just to let you know we are opening a new studio next week in cwb so look out for some opening promotions there.
Posted by Kurtz (1292 days ago)
Oh. Looking forward to it :) Where would it most likely be?
P.s. Seeing how its gonna be a Home piercing, is there anywhere to get those packaged autoclaved needles and jewellery?
Posted by devoncouple (1291 days ago)
D-Man, Do you do male genital piercings? Thanks
Posted by Kurtz (1291 days ago)
I believe Boom does it, Im going there today around 5 to get my eyebrow done; damn I had to sell my PSP to get the money :(
I think it costs around 700 - 800 but im not sure
P.S. D-man Im not trying to advertise boom or anything, im just sharing my knowledge :)
Posted by D-Man (1287 days ago)
Kurtz, our new studio will be at 1F 51 Patterson St CWB. Dude 700-800 is expensive for an eyebrow piercing, we do it for 400.
Devoncouple, yes i do and have done many. What are you interested in?
Posted by devoncouple (1260 days ago)
D-man,
Some kind of frenum arrangement. What would you conservatively say would be the average healing time for one of those before one was able to recommence . . er . . well, you know LOL
Posted by D-Man (1260 days ago)
devon, a frenom piercing takes about 2 months to heal. Of course it is adisded not to have contact with other bodily fluids during the healing period but lets get real here, it will be uncomfortable for about one week to 10 days and provided you use a condom your pretty safe. Of course always clean the piercing as soon as your able after any activity.
Posted by devoncouple (1250 days ago)
D-man, that sounds do-able. I'll be in touch :)

Hi all. Does Primal Piercing still exist, D-Man? My daughter got her nose pierced at StarCrost on Granville Road a month ago, and needs to get an "invisible" stud for it now as her new school doesn't allow nose jewellery. Ross at StarCrost is out of town, it seems, so we're trying to find another (clean and reputable!) place to remove the existing piece of jewellery and replace it with an invisible one. She is not supposed to try to remove it herself for another month. Any suggestions appreciated.

For ears: Isabella in Queensway Plaza and a couple other places.
For nose/other: Star Crossed on Granville Road. Google it.
