Visitor Visa to Australia

Does anyone know about a 'deposit' that has to be paid, in addition to the cost of the visa, when a chinese national comes to Australia?
I'd like to have my chinese gf come to visit me in Australia.

Yes a deposit is required, they are afraid that the person visiting might not return and illegally stay in the country, how much the deposit is varies on different country.

When you say 'Chinese' do you mean mainland China or Hong Kong?

For a HK passport holder to visit Australia the visa fee is only AUD$20. No other charge/deposit required.
