On the Payroll.....

I have heard of some women in HK putting doormen of the boyfriend's building "on the payroll".

All the doormen have to do is simply take note of comings and goings, with/without company and times thereof, and report accordingly.

Has anyone else encountered or heard of this?

Is it common or even true?

hahah I mean, anything is possible and everyone has a price.. I think something like this is feasible but depends on how insane your girlfriend is, or how lame the guy is.

yeah, sounds a little weird.

But I guess it is no more weird than snooping through someone's text messages - and is more practical, and time and cost effecient than doing any stalking oneself.

This one could very easily backfire on you.

If you have an established relationship that links you to the doormen, it can be done.

If you don't, and they say no, and they then report to their boss or gossip, and it gets back to your stalkee, then what?

Doormen in Honkers are paid very little. They will be very happy to get $500- a month extra for doing a little job like this. Of course, they may ask you for an increase after a little while. And if you don't comply, they may rat on you.....

Been in HK 15 years and this sounds both do-able and probable - though don't know of anyone doing it. The request would probably be couched in harmless language to prevent a refusal by the doorman backfiring (perhaps something like 'He has a very protective mother that likes to keep tabs on him.'). Jardine Johnnie; for HK$500 a month, a doorman would probably get a relative to tail him. Guys often pay-off doorman to cover for mistresses. If the doorman is smart he can make from both sides though he would occasionally have to slip in some info to keep the lady interested, ha ha. Sounds like a good plot line for a Feydeau farce. Most HK people are discreet if their discretion is asked for.
