The key to a man's heart....
Posted by Justin Credible (1020 days ago)
is through his stomach?
Anyone care to discuss this old adage? I have to say it has worked for me...and it wierds me out to find out that there are a lot of women out there that dont know how to cook....sigh...well? How many of you out there know how to cook (and cheese toasties can count...as breakfast in bed food) and how many of you cook because your cooking is appreciated with gusto?
And how many of you can cook but are lousy cooks? ;o) haha
If we have a good response, maybe we could have a get together where we learn each others signature dish....

Cooking is instinctive for me...but my signature dishes would be either spinach and ricotta pancakes, mozerella in carozza, parmigiani alla melanzane, paella or toad in the hole. I do a mean fried egg butty too.
Can't bake for toffee though.
Agree its the way to a mans heart. Put a ribbon in your hair too...we all know deep down men just want a Stepford wife.

I'm a chef and I love cooking, but if after a hard days work I come home and there's hot food on the table, well, it's a great feeling.
For people learning to cook start with the really basics i.e. pasta + sauce, then the next logical move pasta + meat + sauce. Do this with some homemade garlic bread (baguette + butter mixed with fresh garlic) and a decent red wine and your sorted.
A lot of mates at Uni had (very) simple cook books aimed at students cooking for the first time. Well recommended.
If your boiling veg then if it grows out of the ground, put it in boiling water. If it grows in the ground then put it in cold water, (on the stove of course). Marmite or Maggie or Worchester Sauce to a bolognese is great too.
Way to my heart, yep have to agree

I enjoy cooking and so does my husband, I'd say we do about 50% each and we usually eat at home. Eating yummy home-cooked food together is a daily pleasure.

I'm somebody who would spend hours in the kitchen to cook and would learn something new to surprise or horrify!
Back to the topic, I think it works only with men who grew up with a mother / father who was a great cook. Men who don't know what good food is wouldn't be able to appreciate it.
I must also add that at least I myself find men who know how to cook irresistible.

"Men who don't know what good food is wouldn't be able to appreciate it."
So what qualifies as good food? Does it have to be french... or italian perhaps? Sounds like food snobbery to me...
If someone cook for me I'd appreciate the effort regardless of the end result. When it come to food I'm not that picky anyhow.

I agree with that...I have had friends and ex-bf's who honestly said their mothers were lousy cooks...but that they survived it. These folks knew a good meal when they had one :o)
I have one for any man....Jewish Mama's Chicken Soup (the name comes from my ex boss saying my soup was better than the one his Mama made and that his Mama was a damn good cook, so it was no small compliment! Ha...if only he knew how easy it was!)
4 cloves of garlic, minced
3 onions cut into chunky pieces
5 carrots, peeled and cut (like little coins, about 3 cm thick)
10 large stalks of cellery cut (just regular like, nothing fancy, maybe 5 cm thick)
1 whole chicken
salt
pepper
pinch of herbs, maybe rosemary
AND a small chunk of ginger, peeled and julliened
stick all that in a huge pot, let it boil then simmer for about 3 hours, then pull the chicken out, take the skin off, seperate the meat from the bone using 2 forks and then stick the meat back in...get rid of the bones and skin...boli for one more hour and if its much broth, add a handful of pasta.
That...with some garlic bread...or even plain french bread...should serve about 6 people!
(or one husband/bf/girlfriend/wife stuck in bed from the flu....for a few days!)

I totally agree with the heart to the stomach thing. I dont think you can catch a man with your cooking but you can certainly enhance the relationship if you are a good cook. I dont know that whether I am a good cook but I do know what my husband likes and dislikes ( he is a picky eater when he is eating outside). So he would rather eat my food than go out and struggle over a menu. And he dose appreciates me slaving over a stove. So thats a plus.

I do agree when it comes to food i'm a bit of a snob. Have to blame my background i guess. I grew up eating well and spent a couple of years to learn how to cook. For me, good food just matters more than lots of other things in life. It is beyond description or any particular regional cuisine. I often find simple food the best.
If someone were to talk similarly about alcohol or sex, the terms 'drinking snob' and 'sex snob' wouldn't even cross my mind...

If I discover my partner's vegetarian, it's over.
Is it important to you too being or not a vegetarian?
(I am based in Hong Kong)
Posted by Justin Credible (1018 days ago)
Hmmm, I like vegetarian food and sometimes go a long time without eating meat, but its not big deal, I am not a vegetarian, I just think vegetarian food is lighter and healthier than meat meat meat...but yeah, I had a difficult time dating a vegan...although why it didnt work out was for other reasons.

Posted by Pumpkin (1018 days ago)
I've been veggie/vegan most of my life but now eat fish. My hardest thing dating a meat eater would be cooking for them - I wouldn't have a clue what to do with a piece of meat (never mind having to handle it...*barf*).

Cooking for fun and to impress is great! But daily routine cooking, that is something of a chore, is definitely boring and wouldn't be a way to a man's heart especially if there are other things too that can lead to his heart!
And yes, I am highly impressed by men who can cook... wow, it IS indeed irresistible. I love good food and I am definitely impressed by a man who can serve me a meal, even if it's a simple dish of pasta... and of course, a good wine to go with it... WOW! So, it is a way to this woman's heart too!! hahaha....

now a me, me again but in fairness to my baff at you on the other threat - this is a good digg in the past and a good response of yours too. at least here you seem a bit better....
most of the weekends i have friends coming over. we buy food fresh from the market and just cook what ever comes to mind. not super sophisticated but good fun among friends, to chat, have fun and yeah it seems to impress.... haha! today we plan for a bbq at the pool...
and in ps: no i'm not in rage, i'm in totally opposite mood but this is not for here other then, that it giggles me even in the stomach...
cheers

A me, if you can't put a good dinner on the table, how are you going to get your man home at a reasonable hour?
btw, when I was young I thought that phrase was about operating on men's hearts. :)

jp; there is a way... i once heard of a story where the couple where forced into a marriage by money and family. both incredibly good looking but he being a super macho came up with following rules the day before their marriage: i go out when i want, i see my friends and spend time with them when and where i want and i come home when i want and don't you! dare to ever leave the house w/o permission...
well sweet as she where, she replied: my dear of course i'll do all as you wish and will be your caring wife but one rule for the house i shall have... each day at 7, i'll have a good long f**k - whether you're home or not...
... and yes a good meal is certainly helping too and i would not mind to do this job for her - still better then doing the dishes isn't it!!!

there are far too many women that can`t cook, I love cooking, but thats probably because I love food, I wouldn`t put up with convenience or fast food. one time of day it was the womans job to stay home and put food on the table, look after the kids etc, now most women go out to work so it should be a joint thing with the man sharing the house chore`s.

I agree that it depends on whether the man is into food. My ex-bf cared the least about what he was eating and would rather that we spend time together than have me slaving away in the kitchen. I think cooking for your man is good simply because it is nice to do things for him because you like him. It could be other things besides cooking.
I'd rather we eat out at a good restaurant or we hire a good cook. I love food and am adventurous about it. know I can't do better than the professionals.

It's great fun. AND it stops your beloved rifling through your things when you take a bathroom break. Unless they're expert at balancing plates and cups on their backs!
(I am based in Kuala Lumpur)
Posted by chonJAY (696 days ago)
again.. another reason not to visit kuala lumpur.. u dont trust ur 'beloved' enough to go to the bathroom without them uncovering all ur deep dark secrets?
Not sure which is worse... that they would rifle through ur things or what u may be hiding?
(I am based in Hong Kong)
Posted by chonJAY (696 days ago)
i take that back.. from what im learning about romance in asia on the other threads.. id be rifling through anything and everything i could get my hands on
(I am based in Hong Kong)
Posted by Jigglypuff (695 days ago)
Exactly, I myself have nothing to hide, it's just from what I've read on other threads that leads me to the conclusion that partners will snoop given a chance.
And please, let's keep on topic here.
The thread is the key to a man's heart.
And let me clarify:
Someone mentioned beer, pizza and TV. To make it perfect (for a man) sex needs to be included. So how do you incorporate all at once?
Easy. Watching match of the day whilst making love with pizza/beer resting on her back. Perhaps somewhat impractical as real men resent spilling even one drop of their favourite brew!
I'm sure we men would reciprocate in order to please our beloved. Although how we would remain aroused whilst listening to Oprah I have no idea.
