Single on St. Valentine's Day

Beyond staying home and looking through one's old black books, where can a single person go on St. Valentine's Day in Hong Kong without a partner?

Good question. While I'm not single now, I remember watching an episode of Cheers on Valentine's Day a number of years ago. When someone teased Kirstie Alley's character about not having a date on Valentine's Day, she replied that she had two - Ben and Jerry. Yes, at that moment I was home alone, watching television, and polishing off a pint of Ben & Jerry's. Nothing worse than realising that your life is the stuff of sitcom jokes.

I agreed that's a good question. I am also single and no where to go in Valentine's Day. I guess better go back home after work and watch TV. Or may be go out with friends who is single too ! You both have any suggestion ?

I think there is sort of a singles party held by the UNI Club on Valentines day. I'm sure there are a lot of other singles activites too. Think you have to RSVP to this one but you can do so through their website: http://www.theuniclub.com/

Just treat it as a normal day and go out with friends. I'm not single but will meet couple girlfriends for dinner and drinks who are also not into commercializing love! I get love, recognition, etc. all year around from my bf. Last thing I want is have him buying me flowers on Valentinsday just because everybody else does so!

I love it when my bf buys me flowers..It doesn't make me happier on V's but it does make me happy. I wouldn't say getting flowers on V's day is the last thing i want because i think it's really sweet of him trying to do somthing on a special day! I would be a little annoyed if he acts like that is the same of any other day.

Find another reason to celebrate the day. Lucky for me it's my dad's birthday - doesn't matter if I have a valentine or not, I still got my dad.

Valentine's Day is just another day, why is everyone making a big deal out of it anyways? To love or be with someone, everyday shld be valentine's day. To answer the question, u can go anywhere..u won't get arrested for being single on that for sure! lol!

Indeed, Valentines day is a Hallmark holiday thats supposed to make us all feel like we have been shortchanged for not receiving a fancy schmancy gift.
That said, I fly out on Valentines day, holiday awaits...I bought myself that holiday, it sure is a lot more luxurious to love yourself, lol! Beats a box of chocolates or edible underpants, hands down!

Its a great question. afew years ago, me and a mate(both of us guys) went out one night and ended up going to a restaurant for dinner later on. We were both single and hadn't realised it was Valentines Day.
Well, it was hard work getting a table but when we eventually did- the service was impeccable and we had a lovely evening. (just camping it up a little maybe.) Got quite a few looks.
Needless to say- we are both still single.........

well, the UNI party seem a good choice , really dont know how to deal with this day every year when have no valentine. Just saw a movie from tv -"Down with Love" which is quite funny. And again, told about something that no one can fight against love.
Hey ChrisHB, have you been to the UNI Club? Is the environment ok?

If you'd also consider meeting people around the Valentine's Day, there will be a party on 16 Feb (Fri) Professional networking + Singles' party. You can see the details at Nightlife/Dining--> Personals--> Gatherings. A few people from this forum will be there too.
