Hi mils
All of the international health insurance plans offer maternity cover under their plans. The waiting period depends on the plan taken and is either 10 or 12 months.

There one company with a 3 month waiting period. But the conception must be after the 3rd month. Therefore the minimum period is also 12 months. The minimum waiting period essentially is 10 months. Andrew

BUPA's policy changed as of 1st April. Although if you are on the 12 month plan you need to wait until the renewal of your policy, before they upgrade your plan to the 10 month plan.
BUPA's prices are slightly more expensive than the Allianz prices. However Allianz also requires you to insure your husband or partner under a Hospital, Outpatient and Maternity plan aswell.

I would like to find out about general health insurance policies that cover for doctor visits and cronic illness etc. I have had a quote from HSBC but would like to find out from others, infividuals who have bought etc, what is the best value etc
I know the company schemes are often the best value but unf neither myself or my husband's companies provide this so we need to get it ourselves.
Thanks!

Pregnancy is one expense, but God forbid if you have a child born with a hole in the heart of hydrocephalus (water on the brain - sounds funny but it sure is not)... what are you going to do then? The costs of delivering the kid are possibly dwarfed by a lifetime of medical expenses.
As far as I am aware, those plans with a 10 month waiting period are almost certainly not going to give you any kind of guarantee to insure the child from birth.
Supposing you are so unfortunate to bear child with congenital conditions, even the better quality providers like IHI/BUPA have their outpatient benefits capped for everything at US$35,000-US$40,000.
Nordic Health Care offers an outpatient cap of 1% of your sum insured -say US$3m *1% = US$30,000 pa, but just for the congenital problem.
Chander Lalwani of Bright Fortune (Insurance Brokers) can help - 2314 9292, or Andrew Robertson of RS Insurance Brokers...3106 2698
For info on more brokers to help with such quality products as BUPA/IHI's Swiss Medical, call BUPA on 2517 5511 or Nordic's Platinum, call Mr 'Srini' Srinvasan at Northern Lights Health Care (the Nordic administrator)... tel 28 517 517
If you are conceiving a child by artificial means, be careful to check how extensive is your maternity cover.. Few insurers will cover pregnancy complications in such a case.
Check too the insurers history of hiking prices .. most insurers have a habit of raising prices 10%pa+ and justifying this as due to 'medical inflation'.
If you are going to be locked in on one insurer as you have a child needing in going medical attention, better choose one that can demonstrate proactive cost containment.
Nordic prices us for life according to our adult age at entry and has a 10 year history of only raising prices @ 5% per year. This 5% price rise is not guaranteed, but it sure shows a commitment I have not seen in others.
