About STD infection - HPV

Is it possible to infect a woman with HPV even without any sexual contact or intercourse? For example, kissing and petting (touching), no penetration.

Other types of genital contact, such as oral-genital, manual-genital, and genital-genital contact, can lead to HPV infection, but these are much less common forms of transmission than sexual intercourse.

Thanks for the replies.
How is it possible if a female gives a man oral sex or touch a man's penis?
HPV is inside the female's vagina. Something must penetrate inside for her to be infected by man...right?

Kissing and petting are both forms of sexual contact, despite what Bill Clinton says.
HPV is very "successful" - it's the world's most common sexually transmitted infection and is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact. Most people will not have symptoms and may not know they are infected. The virus infects cells inside and outside of the body, including the surface of the skin, inside the mouth, the tongue, the throat, the thighs, as well as the vagina, penis, cervix, and anus.
Therefore kissing or touching your partner's genitals with the mouth can cause you to contract HPV.

I just did a quick web search, say's it's unlikely but possible. If you've ever had another partner, you could have contracted it ages ago and not had any symptoms until now.

a few info on this vaccine:
- only for girls
- should be administrated absolutely (otherwise no guarantee on efficiency) before first sexual experience, better even before any kissing/petting
- in HK, doctors will administrate from 9 to 26 years old only
- price is high: 1300 HK$ for each of the 3 injections ( time n, n+2 months, n+ 8 months)
- some of the 200+ types of HPV are main factor for uterine cancer and any adult has over 80% chance to be sometimes exposed to HPV
I find HK local (GP) doctors quite 'conservative' and am afraid not many of them will breach to parents of under 15 the subject of their daughters' current or future sexual history, so I believe it is of outmost importance women are well informed and are all vaccinating their daughters.
Please do have the word go around.

I would totally want my daughter vaccinated for that. Would take her myself. Not necessarily encouraging underage sex, but protecting her from a disease for the rest of her life?? The vaccine will be more common by the time she's old enough. Thanks for the info.

What I've read is that about 70% of adults have the virus and that it can definitely be spread by touching simply with fingers that have the virus on them. And, the vaccine is not effective if given after first exposure, so it's fundamentally too late for almost anyone old enough to be reading this.

Last year, as part of my yearly test with my OB-GYNE, apart from pap-smear, I requested for HPV screening (same procedure as pap-smear but different lab to analyze) and my result came back negative. I was told that HPV is a sexually transmitted disease and chances of contracting it is increased the more sexual partners you have. I have also been told that because I tested negative then I could be eligible for the vaccince because essentially, my body has never been exposed to the virus.

Does anyone know where I can have the HPV test done. Does anyone have a good doctor to recommend.
Thank you.

As I know from newspaper, there is another HPV vaccine coming to HK later this year which is suitable for more women to vaccinate and better coverage on cancer prevention.

You can request for HPV screening from any OB-GYNE. They send it over for labs similar to how pap-smear is done/analyzed

HPV there are over 100s of sub-types but there are 4 high risk types for cervical cancer. The current vaccine is for female 9-26 years old which reduces the risk for cervical cancer by 70%. It is best given before any sexual contact. There is another vaccine coming on the market in 2nd half of the year which is suitable for female upto 55 years old with risk reduction up to ~84%.
HPV test is usually done together with pap smear. It uses DNA technology to check if there was any HPV infection in the past. If the lady have past infection with jigh risk HPV they are at higher risk for cervical cancer. If not infected, they may consider HPV vaccine. The cost for HPV test is about $450-$650 on top of Pap Smear.

exyogi, Judicial Watch is a highly conservative watchdog, you can not expect them to be open on such subject. Actually this vaccine is under voting as well in France to be compulsory given at schools for free. It is now recommanded not only to young girls but to all women as long they have been cleared of curent HPV infection.
US conservatists were indeed lobbying intensively against the vaccine as they believed that it would promote teen sex and pre marrital sex, in addition the fact that HPV was thought to create cancer (cervix) only for women was not going to detter them to their 19th century point of view.
However lately research has connected HPV to throat/mouth/tongue cancer in men (oral sex) and many doctors are now also administering the vaccine to them as well....now that the all so important men' health is at risk ;-) it is to be espected all those well thinking americans are going to very soon change their song!
FYI, I almost died of cervix cancer, I am now in the clear for both cancer and HPV, had the vaccine and had my daughter have it, my son is next on the list, thank god HK doctors are pretty open on this!
