Steroid injection
Posted by jojo67 (568 days ago)
Last year during a hospital stay in China, I had the steroid, Diprospan injected into both of my knees for Arthritis pain. It has worked wonders, but is starting to wear off. Anyone, recommend where I may be able to get it here in HK?

jojo you will need to see an orthodedic dr for that. If you don't have a gp to refer you, you can go to a place like Canossa hospital. They have a decent out patient clinic there and an ortho practicing there. I went to one for my knee too and he was good. Sorry, don't remember his name.

exam such as scopy, x ray or Dexa scan ...etc are necessary. If u have insurance, most of them can cover. I had a family doctor, if u need details: freshair323@yahoo.com

jojo67,
Too late I know but be very careful of taking steroids. They should be the last resort. In rhe long term they can cause all sorts of nasty side effects.

jojo67,
Are you having osteo-arthritic knees?

My elder sister (60 years old?) suffered from had to go to her doc who "drew" fluid from both her knees... a painful procedure in itself! 5 years ago, her doc told her to try swimming. She had never swam before! Long story short, she learnt to swim (at age 55!), became an everyday swimmer, and her knees have never bothered her again since.

Knee strengthening exercises made a real difference in my life. When you have any kind of arthritic changes, having strong muscles can stabilize and reduce stress on the joint. But not just any exercies, because it's also important for the exercises themselves to be easy on the joint. For starters, straight leg lifts will strengthen the quadriceps. There are more, but you should only do those which are approved by a physiotherapist or sports medicine doctor. Not just a run of the mill sports trainer unless they are very aware of the special exercises for injured knees. Steroids are a short term solution, the knee strengthening is a long term plan but can really make a difference in your quality of life and may eliminate the need for steroids or postpone the need for a joint replacement.
