A newbie to HK, where can I swing a golf club on HK island, either at range or a course? I heard courses are either exclusive or expensive and that ranges have slowly disappeared. Any advice anyone can give would be great.

The Hong Kong Golf Club has facilities at Deep Water Bay on the HK island. The place is not far from the south end of the Aberdeen tunnel.
They admit visitors during week-days.

There's a new place in Central that is pretty good. I think its called City Golf or City Links or something like that. On Wyndham St in the Centrium Building above Dragon-i. It has these amazing golf simulators that I found surprisingly accurate, as well as a bar and food from Wagyu. It's pretty convenient if you live in or near Central and you don't have to worry about the weather...

Ed - you're right - there are new simulators at the Centrium Building. They are really good. They also have something similar at the HK Cricket Club if you're lucky to know anyone who might be a member there. Alternatively there is a multi-tier driving range over on the Kowloon side which is pretty good, and open long hours. Think the name is Waterfall

there is a driving range in SouthChina Athletic Association, Causeway Bay, 88 Caroline Hill Road. http://www.scaa.org.hk/. I think you'll need to be a member. Pretty easy to join. Besides, they got whole lot of different sports stuff. For playing on the green, there is the Kau Sai Chau Golf Course in Sai Kung. http://www.kscgolf.org.hk/index-e.asp. they have 3 courses. Telephone-automated registration. You'll need to register as a new golf first time (via telephone). Go to their website to check out.
