Sleep, pregnancy, pillows
Posted by Babeez (388 days ago)
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyonr knows where i can buy a pregnancy pillow in HK. How much should i expext to pay and are they really that necessary? All the books i read, tell me to sleep on my left with the pillow in-between but i sleep on my right....does this make a difference? Could i just use normal pillows instead or are the pregnancy pillows that great? Just want the best for the baby.
Would love to hear`how other pregnant ladies got through their sleeps without their bump drooping on one side, which is rather weird and uncomfortable!
Thanks! :)

Waste of money.
Marketing scam.
Short term use only.
Use a duvet and your current pillows.
If you have them already, use two duvets on the bed - one for hubby, one for you.
Manipulate the duvet to go under your bump and between your legs...
Or use a thin pillow under your bump and another pillow between your legs.
As you get larger, you will probably find you NEED a pillow between your knees as your hips expand and it is just more comfy.
The reason for sleeping on your left is for circulation (position of the heart) some yoga practitioners say ALL people should sleep on their left. Give it a try, you might get used to it.

i use lots of pillows, bought them cheap initially to pad out my son's room.
i prefer to sleep on my right but left is supposedly better so i rotate when i can remember!

Thanks.
CRJ, that's what i am doing now, just wondered if it was normal. Just need an extra pillow and i am all set!
Wheelymate, i am just like you, i am a rightie, so i was hoping for no good reason for sleeping on the left but thanks CRJ, now i understand.

My husband thrashes around in his sleep so I have to sleep on my right (facing out of the bed) for fear of ended up being elbowed in the face!! No chance of me sleeping on my left side. Is the right side really that bad?

The right side is not 'bad'
It is just the left is apparently better.
When you are in the 3rd trimester, if you start to get numb/tingly in your legs/arms when you are sleeping, try the left. That is what happened to me and it really helped.
My husband and I switched bed sides.

hahah - funny story -
I normally sleep on my left side - but once while pregnant - I made the mistake of sleeping on my right - facing my husband. anyways in the middle of the night he knocks me one square on the eye - and I coudln't believe it and I woke up yelling - what's going on what's going on - what are you doing? - and it turns out that he was having a dream - and someone was trying to mug him and instead of turning over the money - he decided to punch him. which ended up being me. I had a black eye - very amusing.
I don't sleep with my husband when pregnant. I become too sensitive and don't sleep well so I find myself wandering from room to room sleeping a few hours at a time...

As everyone has shared, regular pillows work fine. That's what I used during my 1st pregnancy. But with the 2nd, I splurged and picked one up--it's shaped like an "S" from the US and I loved it so much I still use it! The major difference would be that if you move around a lot when you sleep, it's hard to keep regular pillows in place. But that said, you could easily buy/make a really long pillow case, or in my case, a big "S" shaped pillow case and stuff it with regular pillows!

Think i will try that idea hkmommy, sounds like a cheaper plan. My problem is that i don't want to store too many pregnancy things that i don't need after having the baby but it does sound kinda comfy!

I'm at 34 weeks now and here's what i do -
Have a long pillow on my left side, a regular pillow on my right and a small square cushion between my legs at my knees.
I move from my left side to my right side all through the night. I find it comfortable to have one pillow supporting my back all the time, also having a pillow on each side helps me stay on my side and not roll over on to my back.
The cushion between my knees has changed my sleep pattern forever! It raises your thighs just enough to align with your belly. All the numbness and tingling has gone and I'm sooo much more comfortable now.
I have one of those maternity pillows from Leachco. They are simply super but unfortunately does not suit me because I change sides all through the night and moving the giant pillow each time i turned was getting really uncomfortable. If you don't move at night i would recommend this because it really is very comfortable.
Hope you find a way to get comfortable!

Maman Bebe (Windsor House, Causeway Bay) stock fantastic pregnancy cushions - it was the best money I ever spent and 4.5 months after the birth of my baby I am still using it! HK$800...
