Not ovulating

Posted by MAWU (312 days ago)
I am wondering if anyone has had the same experience?
Here's the story:
Been trying to get pregnant for over 6 months now. Before we started I had a check up at the obgyn (blood tests + ultrasound) and everything was 100% ok. She put me on folic acid, I stopped taking the pill and thought getting pregnant would be the easiest thing in the world.
My cycle has been much longer since, compared to the "normal" 28 days when I was on the pill, but still regular.
After nothing had happened for four months I started using ovulation kits. The first month I thought I missed my ovulation because I started testing too late, but this month (I was actually testing every day and spent an awful lot of money on test kits to be sure) still no sign of ovulation.
I have no idea what's going on and I'm not sure if I should see my obgyn again. I'm very healthy, active and young and I'm worried she'll just send me home. I'm getting nervous and it starts to affect my marriage.

If you feel unsure or worried, then go to the ob and talk to him/her about it. They are the professionals. On another note, when we tried for our 2nd, I used a device called Maybe Baby which is a small tube and you put a dab of saliva on it each morning, before you do anything else and you track when you are going to ovulate by the appearance in the window. I know it sounds bizarre but trust me this thing is fantastic and it's worked for us. www.maybebaby.com.au - has all the information, works out much cheaper (and easier) than the ovulation kits. I wish you all the best.

When we first started wanting to have kids, we tried on our own for almost a year. Since nothing was happening I went to see a ob/gyn who told me I simply wasn't ovulating properly or maybe not even ovulating at all. When I was on the pill I was also ovulating monthly, but after that it was anyone's guess when my next period would be. My doc simply gave me Clomid and I got pregnant after the 1st try. We have 2 kids now and both with the help of Clomid.

Hi. My husband and I were trying for a baby as well for months and nothing happened. After I stopped taking the pill it basically threw off my cycle completely and it just wasn't getting back to normal properly. My doctor gave me clomid and we got pregnant after 3 months.
Talk to your doctor as there are many people who have been successful with clomid.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. I guess I'll make an appoinment with my ob soon.
One more question: How much did you pay for clomid and what are the side effects?

I don't think it costs much since my doctor didn't charge me extra when I paid for the consultation. I didn't have any side effects, but I think other women do experience some. Do a search in this forum because I recall someone asked about Clomid in the past. There are also a ton of info you can get on line about Clomid. Good luck with everything, hope you will be successful with Clomid as well.

Hi Mawu,
Are you charting your basal temperature? It does give you some hints whether you are ovulating or not. I got the ovulation testers in China, they are much much cheaper, only $3 each. I found that it is very helpful if you are using both, for me I got positive from the testers 1 or 2 days before my temp drops. Also, chinese medicine doest help the ovulation too.

Some side effects of Clomid include thin lining, drying up of cervical mucus, hot flashes, headaches, and obviously risk of multiple pregnancy since many women often release more than one egg. You can just do a search on the internet for the full list.

The clomid itself wasn't very expensive. Side effects I personally had were mood swings and a lot of headaches. I am 6 months pregnant now and it was all worth it!

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
I have been to the doctor and was diagnosed with PCOS. Started to take Clomid and Metformin. I just hope it helps.

You need a prescription for clomid from a doctor. I think it's quite cheap - less than HK$100.

Yes, you need a prescription from the doctor and it is quite cheap. Unfortunately it didn't work for me.
Was then put on Metformin and Gonal-F (injection in the belly) which seemed to work beter for me but my lining was very thin. Right now I'm on my two week wait and hopefully we got lucky (-:
