If you live in HK, why don`t you go through the public system? It`s practically free.
I had my baby at the VIP birthing Centre, but we lived in SZ at the time.
The price at VIP centre is about 17K rmb for a normal delivery and 25K for a c-section. You would have to travel to GZ for many doctor`s appts, which is very tiring, the more pregnant you are. I used to travel from SZ all the time and it wasn`t so easy.
You can get the birth certificate while you`re in the hospital, but then you need to take it to some official Chinese office in GZ (sorry my hubbie did it) to get it translated. Because we were living in China, we had to later register my baby at the local police station and then get an EXIT VISA in order for him to go to HK. I would check to make sure you don`t have to get the exit visa. It takes about 3-5 days for that. So the whole time you will have to stay in a hotel with a newborn, not lots of fun.
If you have HKID, go to the public hospital. Otherwise, I would suck up the cost and go to the cheapest private hospital and stay in a ward room.
i had a good experience with VIP birthing centre but if I was living in HK at the time, I would definitely without a doubt have had my baby here.
