Pre-genetic Diagnosis IVF
Posted by rgoodwin (940 days ago)
Hello!
I am thinking of trying PGD (pregenetic diagnosis) in Hong Kong. Has anyone tried this here, or know of any experiences? Just wondering how the long the waitlists generally are, and how the experience was.
Thanks!

There is PGD in HK, but only for medical reasons and not for gender selection.
The technology and skill is available, but you will need to clarify with your OBGYN for more details on risks and other problems.

I have posted at another forum. There is PGD in HK sanatorium and QMH. It depends on what is your reason for PGD. In my case, I want to do PGD because I have recurrent miscarraige with unexplained reason and the doctors suspect it's because of the quality of the embryos. But even with this reason, QMH do not want to perform PGD. For HK Sanatorium, they may be more willing to do it for recurrent miscarriage but seems they only tested on a small no of chromosomes as compared to the US. I have not done PGD yet and also is trying to find out more.

I have done it with Sanatorium during my IVF in September. It will cost you HK 10k depending on how many embroys do you have. I do not have the figure with me now but it is about that. The PGD in HK only check 5 chromosomes so it does not include all the chromosomes. If you are thinking to gender, it is not legal in HK.

What are the 5 chromosomes checked?

Gingerale.
I have enquired about a famous hospital in US where they they check 9 chromosomes - according to them, they check those chormosomes which cause most of the miscarriages (according to their statistics reseach). I don't know about the case in Hong Kong but should be the same logic. If you have seen my earlier post, there are pros and cons on PGD - it's defnitiely the more chormosmes that can be checked the better but PGD only avoid your stress of miscarriage but would not increase the quality of the chromosmes - meaning, if you try yourself without PGD, you still can get pregnant when there is a good embryo but you will need to go through the possibility of miscarriage because of a bad embryo. Hope this help.

Thanks - Chipmonk. I would like to know if we did the PGD, can we avoid the amnio test, etc due to age problem.
