I would say to invite them into the cooking process. From your posts, you sound handy in the kitchen so I would include them in the preparations and allow them to see how something goes from ingredients to food.
I have a bunch of child friendly recipes - I used to run a cooking school for kids in HK. Kids LOVED doing them - California rolls, sandwiches - alot of it is really straightforward stuff, but all enjoyable and fun to do. if you like some of the recipes, PM me.
