rice cookers and brown rice Posted by jobieblank (397 days ago) If I bought a regular small rice cooker (for one to 2 people) will it work for brown rice or only white? I had a nice one back home that had the fuzzy technology and brown rice feature. It was small enough. I don't want to invest in such a high tech one here since I don't use them much. So I wanted just to get the simple, small ones with just one feature. (I am based in Hong Kong) Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory  Posted by Havefaith (397 days ago) A regular rice cooker will work for brown rice - you need to soak the rice for a bit (say an hour) before cooking and use 1.5 times the water you would need for normal rice.
