How to avoid burning during baking Posted by donkey1 (266 days ago) Hi I just moved into a new apartment which comes with a non fan oven. Every time I baked - from chicken to muffin, the top is always burnt before they got cooked inside. I tried to change to a lower rack and used a lower temperature but still doesn't work. Any advice? It had a dial that one could turn to only have heat coming from the bottom, only from the top(Broil) or both. I put it on bottom only until about 10 minutes before the end and would then put it on broil. Worked well as long as I paid attention. (I am based in Hong Kong) Posted by donkey1 (262 days ago) Just checked - actually the broiler is not on if I select to use the oven so heat is coming from the bottom, but it just burn both the top and the bottom of the cake....
