Is there NO good cheap Sichuan in Hong Kong?
Posted by stevebmail (19 days ago)
Hi there HK'ers,
I have been in Hong KOng for 3 months now and live in Causeway Bay and I have not found ANY good Sichuan restaurants and definitely none for cheap.
I am stunned that no one in HK is capable of making good sichuan comparable to Beijing. I amlmost refuse to believe it, but I have yet to even come close.
Can anyone please prove me wrong????
Please?????

it's indeed almost true. hong kong in general does not have an abundance of great chinese food outlets (i.e. sichuan, hunan, dongbei, xinjiang, etc).
did you try the spicy hunan noodles place next to the chilli crab restaurants on lockhard road? very cheap and pretty good.
there used to be one sichuan hotpot place in CWB but they now moved to Coda Plaza in McDonnell Road.
Another one is actually the private kitchen in LKF on the 5/F of the building entrance between Al's Diner and Zinc bars. I think called 'Mama something'.
Last but not least, among the 'expat' restaurants you might want to check da ping huo. long time favorite but not cheap.

That was fast and you are awesome. I did check the place next to the chili crab, but it was not Sichuan. It was pretty gross.
I'm going to try your Mama something restaurant. Thanks for that.
I didn't realize how lucky I was in Beijing as far as Sichuan. They get you hooked, then you're screwed.
Hopefully some foodie Genious will come up with some winners.
Thanks for the tips!

there is another place next to the chilli crab places called Siu Teem Teem but it is all in Chinese. They do have pictures on the menu (some). Has the standard sichuan dishes. It used to be a dessert shop and they havent changed the decor. its quite cheap and quite good.
there are several sichuan styyle hotpot places in cwb-- at least you can get the soup in sichuan style, I mean.

Try Chongqing Szechaun Restaurant on Elgin Street. Pretty good, and won't break the bank either.

the name of the place is mum chau's kitchen, very simple decor but food is not bad. But if your are looking for presentation and setting, this ain't the place.
