Routers are independent of the whole Mac or PC thing so don't worry about that. I have both Macs, PCs and a NAS connected on my network. The devices don't care as long as they can get an IP address and the expected encryption type.
Routers in the consumer space are not very different internally nowadays. Firmware (internal software) and interface are what makes the difference unless you're looking for some special feature.
Assuming you mean a wireless router, I would recommend at least 802.11g. 802.11n is cutting edge. WPA and WPA2 (AKA WPA personal and enterprise) encryption should also be included.
Note that the following is just my personal experience and that of my friends. Not really scientific
