Is it ok to buy parallel import products in Wanchai Computer Centre?

I'm planning to buy some gadgets and I find that prices at Wanchai Computer Centre are cheaper. Is it worth buying these parralel import products there? What are the risks? (Aside from no local/Hong Kong warranty).

For a consumer, the lack of warranty is the biggest risk. I can't really think of much else in practice.

For me, it depends on the value of the gadget. If I'm buying a laptop for 10k, then I want the warranty and will gladly pay for an extended one. If I'm buying something for under 1k and I can save 200-300 with a parallel import, warranty is not that important.

Parallel imports should not pose any problems, apart from waranty as mentioned. But I have never had a gadget breakdown in the warantee period. If it does you can always get spares.

Make sure it is not a grey import. If it is there could be additional problems with any kind of spares, in the rare event you have a breakdown.

I live in HK and have bought digital cameras as grey imports and only have had 1 problem once.

They shipped it back to japan for repair but I paid for the postage.

I would suggest that you buy from shops that have been there for a long time. i.e. years not months.

If you plan to leave HK soon, it doesn't make much difference as the non-grey products should normally only have HK and Macau warranties

Thanks. I was looking at a D300 camera and an Omnia II phone. The D300 was quoted at 10,400 and the Omnia II (from Singapore) was at a few bucks less than 4,000.
