Flat screen with black vertical lines???

I've had this JVC flat screen for 5 years now and just recently a black vertical line about 2" wide appeared on the left hand side of the screen and now another one has suddenly appeared in the middle as well.
It's like watching tv through prison bars.

Anyone had this problem before?
Jvc said they could fix it for 1,600 or so but, is this a problem that might happen again?
Is there a good repair man who can do it for less?
