I am trying to download Skpe but every time I click on 'Download', everything suddenly changes to Chinese. (I don't understand Chinese at all). Has anybody else had this problem or does anyone know how I might solve it?

Thanks to both of you who replied - I appreciate it - but the same thing still keeps happening. I was on that 'English version' page before (same as the link you posted - but as soon as I click on 'dowhload Skype now' everything suddenly switches to Chinese.
I am also based in HOng KOng. I guess I'll just have to call a computer trouble shooter in.

Perhaps your o/s and/or browser settings are Chinese for some reason. Could you please let us know which operating system and browser you are using?

HOwever, I am a bit of a computer dummy - I just do basic things and don't even have the computer 'lingo' - I've got Windows XP HOme (is that what the 'operating system' is ..?! I'm not sure how to answer the question about 'browser' - I think maybe the answer is 'Internet Explorer' ...?
By the way, a problem like this has never occurred before. I remember when I bought this laptop - about 4 or 5 years ago, I specifically asked the guys inb the shop who 'set it up' for me to make sure that 'no Chinese' would appear on my screen.

well the bad news is the English version has been blocked in China. You probably need a VPN connection to download the English version Skype.

I had the same problem. What you need to do is when you get the chinese version come up, scroll down to the very bottom and there you can bring down a menu which lets you change the region. then it reloads in English and you'll be away!

I realise this thread is ancient but it's one of the few that comes up when you google this problem. This has happened to me twice now and it takes forever to find the English version which is located round the back of beyond. So if anyone else is looking hoping this helps save you some grief.

Same as above, I know this thread is OLD, but it comes up on google search up top.
The trick is to download Skype not from the official site, but from other legitimate sources like http://download.cnet.com/windows/
Then you will get the official english version, not the chinese tomskype
