Is Face Book Over?

ORIGINAL POST

Recently, Facebook made a stunning disclosure in its 10k annual report: teens might be finished with the social network altogether. “We believe,” the report’s authors noted glumly, “that some of our users, particularly our younger users, are aware of and actively engaging with other products and services similar to, or a substitute for, Facebook.” A new study released Tuesday suggests the company’s problems go beyond the waning interest of its youngest demographic.

As the world's population gets younger, there will be newer teens coming to replace teens who've moved on. Unfortunately, not many teens have money to pay for services and stuff. I think that membership will still be high, but monetization will still be a problem.

Possible

They have too many restrictions recently and driving fans out. Facebook is no longer fun. You cannot invite new friends. Too many ads and too commercial. Others are abusing this for commercial activities of course.

I spend less and less time on Facebook these days.

Facebook, Coolest Cutest Corporate Welfare Queen Of Them All

Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 3:48PM

Last year, the government extracted $1.1 trillion in taxes from us more or less hardworking individual taxpayers. But now it will pay, along with the states, $429 million of our taxes to the coolest Silicon-Valley beauty queen: Facebook. In net tax refunds! Part of a vast package of juicy corporate welfare programs. Facebook isn’t just hogging our data; it’s gobbling up our money.

Is The “Self-Promotion-And-Envy Spiral” Taking Down Facebook?

Last month, according to social-media monitoring startup Socialbakers, there were 167.4 million active users in the US, down 2.4 million from prior month, and down 123,000 from three months earlier. Over the last six months, growth was a hefty 11.9 million. Other major markets saw similar scenarios, such as Indonesia, the UK, Canada, France, and Germany.

Maybe a seasonal dip. Or an indication that FB users in certain markets are backing off. All sorts of reasons have been bandied about: FB fatigue; too busy for a time suck; leeriness of FB’s no-privacy policy; fear of the treacherous reefs of FB-induced jealousy.... Now we were handed another one. Envy.

I have never used Facebook and have never though I have missed anything. When you think about it, Facebook is all about hype. Now they are beholden to Wall Street and it will go the same way as broadcast TV. Old news.

I used to use Friends re-united, then I used Messenger, then I used Linked-in, then I was invited to several other similar start ups (none of which I joined).

I no longer bother with any of them. If someone leaves me a message of FB, I get an email. I then will respond by email or skype.

Just because it is FREE and innovative, or even revolutionary at birth, does not mean it will last. Witness Napster (still going), how many of us still use it?
