Husband and I are spending 3 days in Taipei for a quick vacation. Coming from HK. Need ideas for day-time activities and restaurants (we eat everything). Staying at the Sheraton. Help plan our trip...Thanks
Apologies I have forgotten all the names of places but...
101 is a must if only to marvel at the wind damper... you are in that area so head to the bar at the Hyatt...
The huge memorial park (to Chek/Sun) museum and theatre is also a must... they have also have open air concerts and exhibitions...
There are oodles of other lil temples scattered around...
Lots of night market type areas (but not touristy like HK)... with al-fresco dining and funky shops... try the area where AlleyCats pizza is located...
And get the subway to the end of the red line and the boat over to Bali... sort of akin to stanley but a nice half day out...
Once again apologies... I am not at home and thus without maps...
Oh and head to the central station and go to the restuarant in the Tower there (again I have forgotten it's name)...
And the street where Carnegies(and a shopping mall with Great etc) is located has some really nice bars/restuarants...
When you check in just ask the concerierge for a map... you can do it all in three days...
Just returned from a weekend in Taipei, which I often visit on business, so wanted to take the family. Our children are less adventurous with their eating than you, so food was less of a priority for us, but the restaurants in our hotel (the Shangri-La) seemed very nice, as are some of the restaurants in the Grand Hyatt (where I usually stay for business).
Chiang Kai Shek and Sun Yat Sen memorials are OK, but my 3 priorities would be: 1) National Palace Museum (an absolute must); 2) Tower 101 (we went to the observatory on the 89th floor, but there is also a restaurant you could try; 3) the mountains - head out to Yangmingshan National Park for the scenery and hot springs.
