Ho Chi Minh and CNY

Hello,

Could someone let me know if the shops in Ho Chi Minh will be closed over CNY ? I am going there for the break and was planning to shop but a friend warned me a lot of shops will be closed because of CNY... is it true?

Many shops close for Tet (the Lunar New Year - Vietnamese may take offence at being told they observe CNY ;^).

I am in Ha Noi, not HCMC. Offices shut down, people go home and spend a couple of days (or longer) with friends and family. There were some small, small street restaurants open, and of course hotels are open, but many establishments shut down.
