Bali or Malaysia for family holiday?
Posted by Shahirakk (407 days ago)
We have a wedding to attend in Kuala Lumpur on 20th December and had originally intended on booking a villa in Bali on 21st December for a week but are hearing the weather is very rainy at that time of year. Has anyone been to Bali around Christmas time?
So, we are looking for a reasonable option in Penang or Langkawi - has anyone got any ideas? or do you know someone with a holiday home for rental?
Our travelling party is 4 adults - including the grandparents and 2 children aged 3 and 11 months.
HELP!!! I know stuff is getting booked up really fast.
Thanks

Kota Kinabalu is beautiful. We have been once and going again - in 7 days. Our daughter is 3 yrs old. Loves the pool and so much more. Langkawi is beautiful as well, but more to do in KK. Queenstowner's apartment is very nice, will keep it mind for our next visit to KK.

I love Bali, there's so much there most tourists never see. And the food! Great private resorts too.

Weatherwise, Malaysia and Bali have similar weather. I've been in Bali and Malaysia numerous times and it's either pouring or very hot in Dec for both places.
Foodwise, Malaysia is a food lover's paradise! However, Penang would be a wiser choice for food. The beaches in Penang aren't as nice - the best resort on the island Rasa Sayang Resort is expensive and gets booked out very quickly. Kinabalu is a nature's haven. I've stayed at the Shangrila Resort that has its own strip of beach - powder white sand, clear blue water.
Bali during Christmas can be quite cut-throat in terms of prices for hotels and food. IMHO, i've never really liked the food in Bali. But in terms of nature, beauty and people, Bali wins hands down over Malaysia (not taking into account the gorgeous off the beaten track places of Msia, which I don't think that's what you have in mind).

thanks everyone for suggestions.
We have decided to go to Phuket this time - it works for our family and we were able to get decent accomodation
Have to do Bali and KK and Penang and Langkawi another time for sure. Definitely want to check out the villa in KK next year so expect a PM from me.

Great choice! I was just about to post and ask, Why not Phuket?
The beaches are cleaner, the Thai food is wonderful, and the day trips out to Phi Phi and Phang Nga are absolutely brilliant!
Please, try the huge Pacific oysters! Hubby and I salivate at the memory of oysters in Phuket!

If I still had the choice I would always spend Christmas at home in HK and travel at other times. But since we moved to Jakarta (back to HK for holiday in December, but not for Christmas) things are different.
Each of Malaysia, Bali & Thailand (also don't forget Vietnam) have their good points. It depends largely on your priorities. But for security reasons alone I'd be skipping Bali for the time being.

Yeah, Bali actually is a beatiful place to visit. As GreenValleys said that the security is the main concern specially after the "trio" been executed recently...
