Singapore - Do, Stay, Eat?

For anyone planning a trip to Singapore let's suggest some things to do and see as well as places to stay.

Visit the (daytime) zoo - not just for kids, it's fab! Best I've been to and I've been to lots. Lots of folk rave about the night safari (next door to zoo) though I've not been.

Visit the botanical gardens (free) and pay extra to go in the orchid garden within. Very nice gardens and within walking distance of Orchard Road - though probably easier to take a cab.

Have a beer or two at Clarke Quay and watch the world go by.

Stay at Raffles - expensive but a very nice experience. Don't go more than once, it seems poor value after the first trip.

Have a Singapore sling at the Long Bar, Raffles Hotel. Night safari is nice as well as Jurong Bird Park. Eat at hawker stalls along East Coast Parkway. Day out at Sentosa Island - I'd recommend taking the cable car there. Walk along Orchard Road for some upscale shopping. Take a river boat cruise along the Singapore River. Spend an afternoon in any of the neighbourhoods - my favourite - Muslim Quarter and Little India.
