Posted by Ms bean (363 days ago)
Has anyone stay in this hotel before, can you gave me some advise? Location & facilities? Will be going to Krabi for 8 days but don't know which hotel to book. Thanks.

I am just back from Krabi and have driven by the Sofitel. The hotel is resort style with lots of rooms and pools. However, its one biggest drawback is the need to cross a road to get to the beach. Plus the beach is not that nice and fairly narrow. This will not appeal to people that like to lie on a beach by their hotel. I did not stay there for that reason. Depending on your requirements there are hotels that suit your needs - eg honeymooners, young couples, families, seniors, etc. Need more info.

Krabi is definitely not a beach you can sunbathe on - all you hear along the strip is RALEIGH RALEIGH RALEIGH! From the local boatmen who swarm you to get your money. You take boat trips to the 'beaches' and island.
Philly Cheese is correct the sofitel is set back from the beach and you do have to cross the road. However, if pools are your thing - then you will be fine.
8 days seems to long to stay in Krabi - but that was just our experience.

We will do a bit of islands hopping, I guess. Any suggestion for hotel? Thanks.

We stayed at the Tubkaak Resort. Smallish (42 rooms only) boutique resort. Not a lot to do (ie not a lot of organised activities) besides lying on the beach/pool, spa and some island hopping. Service was fantastic and food was very good at reasonable prices. With a couple of teenagers, you may want to consider some of the bigger resorts like the Sheraton. I've heard really good things about the Rayavadee as well. Some things to do - island hopping as you've alluded to (hong, Raylee, PhiPhi), sea canoe through mangrove forests, elephant treking.
Generally, Krabi is quieter as compared to Phuket, Samui and Hua Hin.
