Royal is excellent - cant go wrong with the Intercon.

Thanks Ed... The Intercon seems a tad Intercon if you know what I mean :)...

I desire somewhere with character and charm... thus the Royal is the obvious choice.

Brief search came across The Quay... any comments?...

I have stayed at the FCC in Ankur and at Phnom Penn, both pretty cool. The FCC in Phnom Penn has a good bar overlooking the river and is popular with ex pat types and good for meeting people. The rooms at the front are bigger but not a quiet as the rooms at the back. Food was great.

Yes of course FCC - I have stayed there - make sure to get the room with the balcony - you can sit and watch the street activity - and book ahead they haven't many rooms

The FCC sort of reminds me of the Mandarin in BKK and what I am looking for... with The Quay being it's funky sister per say...

Now... any suggestions on other bars/restaurants?

Hello again...

Any thoughts on over-landing it from BKK... as in is the trip worth the time/scenic or best left to backpackers per say... no offense backpackers but I am probably only going to be there for a few days so tis quality over quantity...

Also any 'must do's'... thanks again...

Hi, There is a restaurant called Friends about 5 mins from the FCC near the National museum, nice food and for a good cause too. Then I recall a place called the riverside restaurant which was ok, quite a few local khmer resturants along the river front.

I was there for 5 days but I think 3 or 4 would have been ok. For things to do: Tuol Sleng S21 prison/killing fields, pretty grim viewing but part of the country's modern history. National museum and then the odd khmer massage! Have fun.

Thanks again... have ended up at Le Royal as everywhere most reasonable is already fully booked... Chinese New Year and all that...

For the sake of the thread... other hotel suggestions were...

The Pavillion, the kabiki, the blue lime and villa langka...

I used to stay at Frangipani Villas last year and i found it beautiful in terms of design and location. You might try Frangipani Villas which can be viewed at www.frangipanihotel.com
