nice hostel in JFK near Times Square, any advice?

I wonder if Candys Hostel at 315 West, 94th St, NY is good enough for a budget tight traveler.

Any suggestion to a first time tourist? i need just a simple bed & bath, a breakfast could be a plus.

Re Candys Hostel, I think a friend's teenager son and his travelling companion stayed there (or somewhere with a similar name) about a year ago and the report was that it was OK for what they paid. Have you googled? You might find reviews from people who have stayed there.

Update: I was prompted to call my friend in South Africa last night and I learned it was Maisie's not Candy's. Sorry for the false alarm - but still suggest you get a map!

I think the OP used 'JFK' ans an indicator of NYC. No need for a map.

I would look it up on Trip advisor. They seem to have reviews on most places...

I stayed mid-town Manhatten - around 23rd and 8th - at Leo House. It is run by a church but it is run as hotel with no emphasis on religion. It has a great location - I walked to all the major attractions - and is safe and clean. It provides basic accomodation I had a single room with TV and ensuite bathroom. It is best to check to see how they would accomodate a family. It is amazingly good value but therefore rooms are in demand so try and book as early as poss. They do not have a website but do a quick google search and you'll get the contact details also read some of the reviews.
