1st time Sydney

1st time in Sydney in March with my wife. Grateful for recommendations on a 4/5* hotel in convenient location for sights and shops/restaurants. Rocks/Circular Quay or CBD?

Four Seasons is near the Rocks with nice rooms and views. From there, it is walking distance to the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and it's also close to the train station. But in terms of food, restaurants are on the pricier side because it is a tourist area.

Anyone visiting Sydney must try Bistro Moncur in Paddington. The food there is sensational. Another must is a lunch at Sydney Fish Market in Pyrmont.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Darling Harbour ( decent 4 star property) and right next to all the major sights, such as :-

1) Darling Harbour itself which has an aquarium, plenty of harbourside dining, floating restaurants, zoo, ferry rides

2) 5 minutes away from the george street shopping area that has the sydney tower.

3) Right on the tourist monorail and the Sydney Tour Bus routes.

4) 5 minutes away from the sydney opera house

5) 5 minutes away from ferries that take you to outlying beaches/islands like manly beach, taronga zoo

6) 30 minutes by bus to Bondi, the bus is available from close to the hotel itself

check out www.wotif.com for some cheap last minute accomodation - you can book up to 4 weeks in advance now I think?

We usually stay at Sheraton on the Park.(5 star) Prices have really come down so def check out "last Minute,com or wotif as suggested. Sheraton is opposite Hyde Park and walking distance to EVERYWHERE in the city.

Also try Medina apartments. sometimes its nice to have a fridge and a small kitchen.
