Infant Fares (under the age of 2 years old)

I am planning a trip to London with my family (wife and 2 infant kids) in the summer. I noticed that the infant fare for one of the major airline is double the price in comparison to others. In fact they are the most expensive out of the major carriers. I'm wondering why and can this be negotiated with the airline?

I just returned from London and ended up doing all the same research. Two airlines (one British and one from down under (not the one you think)) don't charge for infants on your lap (but they do charge tax - something like HK$300 - $500). A HK carrier and a major British one charge "infant fares" which are surprisingly expensive. They're supposed to be about 10% of the adult fare, but I found them to be around HK$2500 - $3000 or so. Also, not all airlines will allow you to book them online, and make sure to reserve the bassinet way in advance. Good luck.

Cost of carrying an infant under 2 is usually 10% of full adult seat cost, and not a discounted one.
Personally, I have now flown twice with my young one and actually purchased cheapest tickets possible for all of us, ie, three seats, our UK carrier is offering a decent deal currently, four seats costing less than HK$20,000, if you use a travel system, this really is the best way to go, as you can have a travel seat for the child and a bassinet.
Hope this helps, but it really does depend on what your budget is.
