Which hotel to stay in Sanya?

Planning to go to Sanya with my 5 and 2 yr old girls...there seem to be many hotels to chose from...which would be ideal from the kids and their facilites point of view...

Went a few years ago. Hilton was nice for families with alot of stuff. Cactus Hotel is where we first stayed. It was on the TV show Globe Trekker. I know more hotels has been completed since I was there. The Cactus is funny. Rooms are simple and prices are fair. Pool is definately nice. Evening dinner by pool is cool. Close to the beach. Food ok. Holiday in has private beach area.

If you saw the Globe Trekker show you saw a beautiful pond with a boat shaped like a swan. When we got there the pond smelled like the river in Yuen long. The swan boat had capsized and was just rotting. Like many places in China. They build big and beautiful but have no plan for maintenance and things just rot away.

Sanya is a funny place. We took taxi from airport to Resort area. Rest is closed area. We saw army/police troops surounding and old village that was being dimolished and the locals were protesting. I took photos and the taxi driver said "Stop! Trouble!".

Walking to the beach from the Cactus is quick but I saw daily a junky sitting by the bushes shooting heroin.

Next day I went for a run and ran along a road passed the Holiday Inn. At the end there is a guard post. As I got close he came out and yelled "Stop". They dont want you to see the dire poverty the locals live in. All the hotels are in this resort area.

We took a taxi one day - hired the guy for the day and went inland . Beautiful place. Up in the mountains - it was really amazing.

there are loads of new hotels opened up since a few years ago. The Ritz-Carlton has good kids facilities....good pools for kids, a separate kids pool within the play-room/playground area, nice beach etc.

A friend stayed at the new Mandarin Oriental last week and said that the beach wasn't as nice as the RC, but that outside their room there was a MASSIVE grass area and private plunge pool.....she didn't mention the other kids facilities though.

Can only comment on Ritz Carlton as I haven't tried any other spots in Sanya. Good facilities for kids. Big kids pool play area as istolethepie said. Family friendly restaurants - you would mainly use the buffet style main restaurant which is very well set up for kiddies. Would definitely recommend it for families.

Hmmm. I don't know but their website doesn't list any thing like that. I only saw the pool kids play area but istolethepie said there is a "separate kids pool within the play-room/playground area". You could always just call them....

you should check out Sheraton as well. My friend stayed there with his family for a couple times and he recommanded it highly. The hotel has kids club as well.
