Where can I sit out my redundancy?

Any recommendations on where to sit out my redundancy? I'm planning on a slow go for a couple of months but want to be near to the Asian market places in case a lead comes up.

I have a young family so can't be too scarey.

Go sit in the Philippines. Go north from manila and rent a house near the beach for about 3k HKD a month. A few of the towns is where the USA service families would go on leave, so some of the towns have nice restaurants, shops etc. Buy a cheap car and you can have a great time. you are only a few hours from MNL airport with cheap flight to quite a few countries on Cebu Pac. By the way i already have my plan in place. My plan uses a budget on 10K HKD for 2 people per month.

I am building a house in Bali and in the meantime renting in Sanur. You can get outstanding value here - I have a massive, super luxurious 5 bedroom place with a big swimming pool that would make Tony Montana proud - USD18,000 for a year - there are two staff on USD100/each - with electricity etc... monthly would work out to less than USD2000. There is nowhere better to live in Asia (and wait out the crisis) than Bali - great restaurants, good expat community, and some very good schools.
