Travel to US this summer

Planing to do a US trip , both East & west coast with my 2 kids (7,3) this summer. While I am not scared of the Swine flu in the country as such am terrified that it may become an issue in the air plane. All cases of Swine flu in HK are from people returning from the US.. Any thoughts on this..should I be scared?

Scared no, cautious maybe as you will be subject to quarentine upon arrival in hk if passengers on your plane are even suspected of having it if you sat near them.

That said, I'm also going to USA for the summer w/o kids and am only concerned about returning to hk and being isolated.

Swine flu is pretty much a joke AS 500,000 people die every year of the common flu. So, why all the panic?

I believe its an evil plot perpetrated by the chicken farmers of the world to recover lost revenue from the chciken flu !

There are over 300 million people in the US... how many have swine flu? I suspect the odds of getting hit by a car or shot are roughly as high as dying from this flu (writing this from Canada where there are more cases per capita)

I don't think being flippant is the answer here.

We are dealing with a new virus that might mutate. Remember...the spanish flu of 1918 started off very very mild but it was the young and healthy who died.

I dont think anyone is being flippant... if this ends up like the flu virus of 1918 I dont think it will matter if one is in the US or Hong Kong or anywhere else for that matter... there will be nowhere to hide.

all viruses may mutate, no difference with this one and comparing what happened almost 100 years ago is irrelevant ...

Remember also that Homeland Security employees have two opportunities to steal from your unlocked baggage. Leave unnecessary valuables at home and carry the ones you need on your person in the cabin.

Scan your passport data page, and any visas, and e-mail them to yourself in case you lose the originals.

I would add that travel to Hong Kong / China is highly discouraged as they are being touted as places to get a free stay while being quarantined. And since its happening on a regular basis I agree.
