Favourite Travel Destination - Asia?

For a short break Luang Prabang in Laos. It's a UNESCO heritage site and gives one a glimpse into the past.
For a longer vacation nothing beats Bali - beachers, surf, culture, shopping, mountains, restaurants, mystique (Kuta excluded of course)

Thailand was good, and in some parts still is. Other than Bali, parts of Indonesia are out of this world. I'm not so keen on Vietnam though, I find it a little rigid.

For me, short break means a weekend or a weekend plus a day or two. That makes BKK and SIN easy as flights are relatively short and evening flights are available so you can go after work. Airport to hotel trip is also short. I'd love to go to LP or even Vientiane for a 'short' break, but I'd need to take an extra day off to get there. Bali flights are similar in that you need a day for travelling each way to go door to door.

Koh Samui Thailand - defenetly still a tropical island paradise. Take a look at www.samui-villas.biz for more information about Koh Samui and accomodation. Best.

It's hard to beat Hong Kong as a favourite travel destination in Asia. It is very diverse and holds its' own culture(s) yet is very, very international. Though a bit pricey, it offers City, Country, Hiking, Biking, Beaches, Boating/Islands, Entertainment(s), Security, Foods > Wha La! What more can one ask for?

Japan is our favorite. We feel it's safe, and clean, and very child friendly. Short flight, and so many diverse cities to choose from, each with its own uniqueness.

Koh Samui is a DUMP. Went in April expecting a tropical paradise and found something different altogether.

You can do A LOT WORSE than head over to Yalong Bay in Hainan Island. Great beach. Great hotels. Easier to get to than Singapore or Thailand.

Luang Prabang or Vientiane, simply Laos would be my pick if one wants a short break from the city.
For sun, sea, sand, Southern Thailand or Philippines would be great.
For city, definitely HK!

just back from Penang, get wait to get back.....if you are into history and nice colonial buidldings, this is the place to go. It will give you a glimpse of what Hong Kong was like 50 years ago. Oh and dont forget to eat the food, simply the best. But if you want to beach holiday sort of place, then i would recomend somewhere else.

carmine - you should have gone and stayed at the beach in Penang... lovely.
Holiday Inn - right on the beach - so is the Golden sands (Batu Ferringhi Beach)as is/are many more along that strip. Golden sands is undergoing refurbishment until the end of the year on some of the rooms (we were there when they had the earthquake and there were one or two cracks!)
The night stalls along the same beach strip are numerous and the choice of food is fabulous.
