Honai + Halong bay cruise - early October

* Any recommendation for hotel in Hanoi ?

* What about the cruise in Halong Bay , worthwhile ?

* If anyone have a good tour guide in there, would be great to know.

A friend of mine is planning to go there alone, pity I can't join. So am doing a bit of quick research.

PS - do you need to carry your passport around in there ?
